Overview: This role is responsible for overseeing the acquisition and distribution of materials, components, equipment, and supplies for the organization by executing the following responsibilities. Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Managing all processes related to the procurement of a commodity from the initial purchase intent to final delivery.
  • Assessing the needs for the commodity, including initial specifications, preferred suppliers, and required delivery dates.
  • Requesting and evaluating bids for the desired commodity, including identifying new potential sources.
  • Researching and interviewing prospective suppliers to ensure they meet the necessary criteria.
  • Providing recommendations to team members or management regarding the most suitable supplier.
  • Negotiating to achieve the best possible pricing for the commodity while ensuring quality and timely delivery.
  • Executing purchase agreements that adhere to company policies and regulatory standards.
  • Maintaining effective communication with supervisors, requisitioning personnel, vendors, and other relevant departments.
  • Ensuring that the commodity is delivered on time, at the agreed price, and meets the company's quality expectations.
  • Keeping accurate records of orders, amendments, shipping notifications, and other documentation.
  • Coordinating efficient distribution methods for the commodity.
  • Supervising staff, organizing workflows, and addressing issues in the absence of the Purchasing Manager.
Qualifications: To be successful in this role, candidates must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The following qualifications are representative of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required: Education and Experience: A Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution; a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience; or a combination of education and experience.
Language Proficiency: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret business publications, professional journals, technical documentation, or governmental regulations. Proficient in writing reports, business correspondence, and procedural manuals. Capable of effectively presenting information and responding to inquiries from groups of managers, clients, and the public.
Analytical Skills: Ability to apply logical reasoning to carry out instructions provided in written, oral, or diagrammatic form. Capable of addressing problems involving multiple concrete variables in standardized situations.
Technical Skills: Familiarity with BPCS Inventory software, order processing systems, and MS Office applications.
Certifications: APICS, C.P.M., CPSM, or equivalent certification is preferred but not mandatory.
Additional Information: Occasional travel may be required for vendor meetings, trade shows, or site visits.
