Job Summary

Retina Consultants of Texas is seeking an Ophthalmic Clinic Technician to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing accurate documentation, summarizing patient medical history, and performing preliminary ocular examinations. This role requires strong communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to multitask and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities
  • Obtain patient history, including chief complaint, history of present illness, and patient and family history of ocular and general illnesses.
  • Perform and document visual acuity, confrontational visual fields, evaluation of motility, pupillary function tests, dilation, and ocular tonometry.
  • Provide compassionate patient care throughout the clinic flow.
  • Perform opening and closing duties, including inventory count, prepping drugs as needed, and maintaining cleanliness in exam and procedure rooms.
  • Assist the ophthalmic photographer with OCTs and troubleshoot equipment as necessary.
  • Occasionally assist physicians with laser procedures, injections, and minor procedures.

Qualifications
  • Ability to perform comprehensive work-ups and educate patients regarding instillation of eye drops and other instructions related to physician's treatment plan.
  • Strong organization and attention to detail, with the ability to multitask and work effectively in a team environment.
  • Valid CPR certification required.

Education and Experience
  • High school diploma required; some college preferred.
  • Certified Medical Assistant preferred, with one to two years' experience as an ophthalmic assistant.

Physical Abilities
  • Must be able to move frequently from standing and sitting, with prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to type or write legibly in a dimly-lit setting.
  • Must be able to hear softly spoken words and add support for patients getting in and out of exam chairs.
  • Lifting required up to 50 pounds.
