Job Summary

The Olathe Public Schools is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated individual to fill the role of Part-time Para 1 Early Childhood Assistant. This position is responsible for providing support to students with special needs in the regular classroom or resource room, assisting in implementing instructional plans, and performing various clerical tasks.

Key Responsibilities
  • Adapt and Provide Accommodations: Assist in adapting classroom activities, assignments, and materials to meet the needs of special education students.
  • Support Student Needs: Provide assistance to students with personal care needs, such as packing backpacks, note taking, and relationship building.
  • Attend Meetings and Presentations: Attend meetings and in-service presentations to acquire and convey information related to job functions and meet established annual state requirements.
  • Collaborate with Staff: Collaborate with certified staff to provide necessary support and information related to student progress and individual education programs.
  • Implement Behavioral Plans: Implement behavioral plans for students as designed by the IEP team to assist in meeting special education students' needs.
  • Assist with Challenging Behaviors: Assist students with challenging and/or aggressive behaviors.
  • Implement Education and Behavioral Programming: Implement education and behavioral programming under the supervision of certified staff to develop new skills for students.
  • Instruct Students: Instruct students in various activities in individual and group settings to meet individual educational program goals.
  • Maintain Instructional Materials: Maintain instructional materials and data sheets to ensure availability of instructional materials and provide reliable information regarding student progress.
  • Monitor Students: Monitor students during assigned periods in various school environments to provide a safe and positive environment conducive to learning.
Requirements
  • Job-Related Experience: Job-related experience is desired.
  • Education and Certification: High school diploma or equivalent. If the school building is classified as Title I, 48 hours of college credit or the ability to pass the Title I assessment test is required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and abilities:

  • Adhering to Safety Practices: Ability to adhere to safety practices and procedures.
  • Operating Standard Office Equipment: Ability to operate standard office equipment, including using pertinent software applications.
  • Preparing and Maintaining Accurate Records: Ability to prepare and maintain accurate records.
  • Using District-Approved Crisis Intervention Techniques: Ability to use district-approved crisis intervention techniques.
Physical Requirements
