About the Role:
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Patient Associate to join our team at UPMC Horizon-Greenville. As a Patient Associate, you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of our Outpatient Center, providing exceptional patient care and support to our patients and families.
Key Responsibilities:
- Registration and Scheduling: Consistently utilize spare-time to benefit unit, patients, and co-workers by efficiently registering patients and scheduling appointments.
- Phlebotomy and Specimen Collection: Obtain signature of patient or family member of consent to treatment and financial responsibility flowing the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) rules and regulations, and procure appropriate specimens by venipuncture, swab, heel stick, and fingerstick following established procedures.
- Patient Communication: Instruct patients on the collection procedures for laboratory specimens that are obtained by the patient, and maintain good rapport and cooperative relationship with medical staff, co-workers, supervisors, and others.
- Administrative Tasks: Perform and document EKG's, procure and process laboratory specimens, requisitions, and order entries from internal and external facilities, and collect and record patient payments at time of service.
- Team Collaboration: Participate in the collection and communication of data pertaining to health status and needs of patients of all ages on an ongoing basis, and promote the hospital's image and maintains a positive and helpful attitude toward employees, physicians, visitors, and the community.
Requirements:
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience: Experience in patient registration and technical skills/experience with EKG's and specimen procurement preferred.
- Skills: Good oral and written communication skills, ability to communicate with hospital contacts both on the telephone and directly, and effectively communicate with all age groups, populations, and individuals within the hospital.
- Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS), Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting, Act 33, Act 34, Act 73 FBI Clearance.
