Job Summary

We are seeking highly motivated and detail-oriented individuals to join our Marine Fisheries Program as Seasonal Resource Assistants. As a key member of our team, you will assist in various projects, including the American Shad & Sturgeon Project, Long Island Sound Trawl Survey Project, Commercial Fisheries Statistics Project, Marine Angler Survey Project, and Research Vessel John Dempsey.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in sampling and data collection for various projects
  • Conduct laboratory fish processing and data entry
  • Participate in public outreach events and interact with the public
  • Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of equipment and vessels
  • Assist in data analysis and quality assurance procedures
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to lift and move 50 lbs and work in various hydrographic conditions
  • Valid driver's license required
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in biological sciences, including coursework in fisheries or a related field
  • Experience in a related field, such as marine biology or conservation
  • Experience conducting field work and collecting data
  • Experience with Microsoft Office software suite and Microsoft Access
  • Experience using electronic tablets or other devices for data collection
Working Conditions

Incumbents in this class must possess and maintain adequate physical strength and stamina to perform the duties of the class. Incumbents performing lifeguard services must be able to demonstrate American Red Cross (ARC) waterfront lifeguarding swimming skills.
