Job Summary
U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is seeking highly motivated and dedicated individuals to fill the role of Border Patrol Agent. As a Border Patrol Agent, you will play a critical role in enforcing U.S. laws and regulations at and near the Mexican and Canadian international land borders.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct surveillance and patrols along the international border to detect and prevent illegal activities
- Respond to electronic sensor alarms and investigate suspicious activity
- Interpret and follow tracks, marks, and other physical evidence to track and apprehend individuals
- Use infrared scopes during night operations to detect and apprehend individuals
- Perform farm and ranch checks, traffic checks, city patrols, and transportation checks to prevent smuggling and other illegal activities
- Patrol the international boundary and coastal waterways using a variety of government assets, including vehicles, horses, vessels, and watercraft
Requirements
- Be a U.S. citizen
- Have a valid driver's license
- Be referred for selection prior to your 40th birthday (waiver for veterans' preference eligible or those that have previously served in a federal civilian law enforcement position)
- Have resided in the U.S. for at least three of the last five years
- Be eligible to carry a firearm
- Be willing to travel frequently, including extended domestic and foreign temporary duty assignments
