Job Summary

As a Border Patrol Agent with U.S. Customs and Border Protection, you will play a critical role in securing our nation's borders. You will be responsible for detecting and preventing the entry of undocumented noncitizens, smugglers of noncitizens and illegal narcotics at or near the Mexican and Canadian international land borders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Respond to electronic sensor alarms and interpret and follow tracks, marks and other physical evidence.
  • Use infrared scopes during night operations and respond to aircraft sightings and other anti-smuggling activities.
  • Perform farm and ranch checks, traffic checks, city patrols and transportation checks.
  • Patrol the international boundary and coastal waterways using a variety of government assets, including vehicles, horses, vessels, watercrafts, off-road vehicles, ATVs, snowmobiles, and motorcycles.

Basic Requirements

Applicants must be U.S. citizens, have a valid driver's license, and be referred for selection prior to their 40th birthday (waiver for veterans' preference eligible or those that have previously served in a federal civilian law enforcement position). They must also have resided in the U.S. for at least three of the last five years, be eligible to carry a firearm, and be willing to travel frequently.
