Job Summary

As a Border Patrol Agent with U.S. Customs and Border Protection, you will play a critical role in securing our nation's borders. Your primary responsibility will be to detect, prevent, and apprehend undocumented noncitizens, smugglers of noncitizens, and illegal narcotics at or near the Mexican and Canadian international land borders.

Key Responsibilities

Respond to electronic sensor alarms and interpret tracks, marks, and other physical evidence to identify potential security threats. Use infrared scopes during night operations to detect and track individuals. Respond to aircraft sightings and other anti-smuggling activities to prevent the movement of contraband. Perform farm and ranch checks, traffic checks, city patrols, and transportation checks to ensure compliance with border security regulations. Patrol the international boundary and coastal waterways using a variety of government assets, including vehicles, horses, vessels, watercrafts, off-road vehicles, ATVs, snowmobiles, and motorcycles.

Requirements

Be a U.S. citizen and have a valid driver's license. Be referred for selection prior to your 40th birthday (waiver for veterans' preference eligible or those that have previously served in a federal civilian law enforcement position). Have resided in the U.S. for at least three of the last five years. Be eligible to carry a firearm and willing to travel frequently. Pass the required physical fitness test.
