Job Summary
This position supports the California Department of Public Health's mission and strategic plan by planning, organizing, and carrying out scientific research of moderate scope and complexity.
The Research Scientist II ensures the quality of performance and outcomes of results from our high complexity Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) certified genetic screening laboratories.
This position requires hands-on working in the lab following quality assurance guidelines with a principal focus on testing of dried blood spot, whole blood, plasma, serum, and urine specimens from newborn babies for second-tier testing of genetic disorders using tandem mass spectrometry and other analytical techniques.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct scientific research of moderate scope and complexity
- Ensure the quality of performance and outcomes of results from CLIA certified genetic screening laboratories
- Test dried blood spot, whole blood, plasma, serum, and urine specimens from newborn babies for second-tier testing of genetic disorders
Requirements
- Valid California Clinical Chemist license, Clinical Laboratory Scientist (Generalist) license, or Clinical Genetic Molecular Biologist Scientist license
- Experience in scientific research discipline, primary focus on biochemistry
- Strong work ethic, interpersonal skills, and team-oriented approach
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Adaptability and flexibility to handle constant changes
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment
- High degree of organization and positive attitude
