Research Scientist

The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking a highly qualified Research Faculty to join our team at the Massey Cancer Center. As a Research Faculty, you will be responsible for conducting impactful studies in the field of cancer research, with a focus on translational oncology, immuno-oncology, and drug discovery.
Responsibilities:
Teaching:
The successful candidate will share a deep commitment to effective instruction, creation of innovative courses, and mentoring of students in research, outreach, and professional development. They will demonstrate leadership in developing techniques designed to meet the needs of diverse learning styles and intellectual interests, especially in the context of interdisciplinary research interests that complement the program.
Research:
The Research Faculty will contribute to VCU's national reputation through research and scholarship, including extramural funding, high-quality publications, citations, and national recognition through honorific awards and committee leadership. They will publish in peer-reviewed journals and submit grant applications for extramural funding in the field of translational oncology, immuno-oncology, and/or drug discovery, including medicinal chemistry and structural biology.
Service:
The successful candidate will serve on Departmental, College, and/or University committees as necessary, as well as in a professional capacity in their field, such as reviewer, conference organizer, etc.
Qualifications:
- PhD, MD, or MD/PhD degree in basic, translational, or clinical sciences
- Extensive cancer-relevant research experience
- Proven extramural funding track record
- Extensive publication experience
- Proven trainee and faculty mentorship skills
- Track record working in multi-disciplinary fields
- Experience in, and coordination of, collaborative grants and managing trans-disciplinary research
- Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment
