Reporting directly to the Family Service Manager, this role plays a vital part in ensuring the safe and efficient transportation of children participating in our Head Start program.
Responsibilities:- Maintain meticulous records for all Head Start vehicles, encompassing routine maintenance and emergency repairs.
- Oversee daily vehicle inspections conducted by drivers to guarantee safety standards are met.
- Develop comprehensive budget estimates for vehicle expenses and maintenance costs.
- Coordinate training initiatives for staff seeking CDL driver's licenses.
- Compile data essential for reporting on the transportation program's effectiveness.
- Ensure all vehicles remain in pristine condition, adhering to state and local licensing regulations, fire safety codes, health standards, and environmental guidelines.
- Monitor vendor invoices for vehicle repairs, ensuring accuracy and cost-effectiveness.
- Coordinate daily transportation operations, scheduling routes and managing driver assignments.
- Maintain accurate records of DOT physicals and CDL renewals, proactively tracking expiration dates.
- Provide comprehensive training to all drivers, emphasizing safe driving practices and program protocols.
- Continuously monitor and evaluate the transportation system, identifying areas for improvement and implementing solutions.
- Schedule vehicle repairs promptly, collaborating with vendors to ensure timely service.
- Manage bus maintenance contracts with vendors, ensuring adherence to service agreements.
- Coordinate the renewal of liability insurance annually, verifying coverage for all vehicles.
- Collaborate with Center Supervisors to arrange transportation for children attending medical and dental appointments.
- Assist the Head Start Director in interviewing potential transportation employees.
- Participate actively in relevant workshops, seminars, pre-service, and in-service training programs.
- Contribute to the bidding process for bus maintenance services and assist in drafting contracts that encompass required services.
- Set annual goals with staff members and conduct performance evaluations annually.
- Support efforts to increase in-kind donations and contributions to the program.
- Perform additional duties as assigned, ensuring compliance with state and federal guidelines.
