Job Overview
Position Objective:

Sales associates deliver prompt and courteous service by proactively engaging with customers to understand their requirements and provide support. These associates focus on product and department expertise, offering insights on product characteristics and related items to facilitate comprehensive project solutions. Associates in this role are skilled in greeting, qualifying, recommending, and closing sales with every customer they encounter, while also being knowledgeable about basic functions in related departments. Sales associates are responsible for maintaining the availability and organization of their designated areas, ensuring that they are clean, accessible, and safe for customers. Each associate plays a vital role in fostering a secure shopping and working environment by adhering to all safety protocols, completing required safety training, promptly addressing hazards, and reporting unsafe conditions to the Manager On Duty. They collaborate closely with their Department Supervisor and fellow associates across various departments. Specific departments may encompass Building Materials, Décor, Electrical, Flooring, Garden, Hardware, Kitchen & Bath, Lumber, Millwork, Paint, Plumbing, and Tool Rental. Sales roles may include Department Sales, Lead Generator, Pro Account Sales, Sales Specialist, Special Services, and Customer Order Specialist.

Key Responsibilities:

Deliver prompt and friendly service
Proactively engage with customers on the sales floor and in aisles Provide a warm greeting, smile, and establish eye contact with customers Pose open-ended questions regarding customers' projects to identify their needs and expertise level Exhibit enthusiasm while interacting with customers Manage multiple customers simultaneously when necessary Express gratitude to customers for choosing to shop at The Home Depot Follow up with customers via phone when appropriate Possess comprehensive knowledge of products and services available at The Home Depot
Respond to inquiries about merchandise based on the customer's expertise level Guide customers to the appropriate products, regardless of department Articulate features and advantages of merchandise Clarify the steps required to complete projects and the necessary products Assist customers with special orders and installation services Develop foundational product knowledge in adjacent departments Gain insights into key services such as key cutting, ropes, blinds, carpet, wood, and paint mixing Promote services available at the Special Services Desk, Tool Rental, and Pro Desk Understand other Home Depot services and how to recommend them effectively Work Environment:
Due to the presence of forklifts and heavy equipment, there may be temporary floor irregularities The warehouse setting can be dusty and noisy Doors are frequently open, leading to drafts and temperature fluctuations Floors in work areas may become slippery during wet conditions Handling merchandise and using tools with sharp edges may be required Gas fumes may be present from passing forklifts Tools, supplies, and related merchandise may contain hazardous materials Environmental Considerations:

Work Setting:

Typically in a comfortable environment, but with regular exposure to factors that may cause moderate physical discomfort, such as dust, fumes, or odors

Travel Requirements:

Generally involves minimal overnight travel, less than 10% of the time
