Job Title: Travel Demand Modeler

We are seeking a highly skilled Travel Demand Modeler to join our team at Alliance Transportation Group, LLC.

About the Role:

The selected candidate will be responsible for designing and developing travel demand models to analyze and forecast transportation system performance. This will involve working with various data sources, including household and transit onboard travel survey data, to develop model parameters and estimate model performance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop travel demand models to meet transportation analysis objectives.
  • Analyze and interpret data to develop model parameters and estimate model performance.
  • Work with and create CUBE Voyager and TransCAD GISDK scripts to support model development and analysis.
  • Perform computer programming related to travel demand modeling and traffic analysis.
  • Conduct statistical analyses of travel survey and passively-collected transportation data.
  • Define variables, coefficients, and constants to estimate a model likely to replicate observed transportation system travel behavior.
  • Perform GIS analysis using ArcGIS, TransCAD or QGIS.
  • Calibrate and validate the model to produce statistically reliable results to match target confidence and error levels based on project objectives.
  • Apply the models to forecast future transportation system performance under varying conditions and project scenarios to test the feasibility and economic viability of major highway and transit infrastructure projects.
  • Produce and contribute to the presentation of technical memorandum, analysis reports and formal and informal technical presentations on model development, application, results and recommendations to a variety of groups including professional peers, policy makers and elected officials, civic and business leaders and the general public.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Transportation Engineering, Transportation Planning, or a closely related field.
  • Minimum 5 - 8 years of experience working with travel demand models.
  • Proficiency in at least one travel demand model environment with exposure to others (e.g. TransCAD, Cube).
  • Scripting experience with Python (pandas, NumPy), R, VB, GISDK, or similar.
  • Ability to plan, organize and manage the technical components of a travel demand modeling project.
  • Specific technical training in and experience with statistics and statistical packages, geographic information systems (GIS), travel demand models.
  • Experience in carrying out travel demand model estimation, calibration and validation.
  • Demonstrated expertise and experience in the production of model documentation and technical reports.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Master's degree or higher in Transportation Engineering, Transportation Planning, or a closely related field.
  • Familiarity with GTFS, Dynameq, TransModeler.
  • Demonstrated experience in the specification of travel demand model architecture.
  • Proficiency in the use of statistical packages such as SPSS, SAS, MATLAB, STATA.
  • Proficiency in computer programming with C++, Python, R, C#/.Net, JavaScript, or similar.
  • Experience supervising completion of tasks assigned to junior staff.
