Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to serve as the Assistant Director of Operations and Strategic Planning for the Texas Department of Public Safety. This is a senior-level managerial position that requires a strong background in facility management, strategic planning, and leadership.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement strategic plans, goals, and objectives for facility operations and management.
  • Direct and guide program activities and/or business functions within Facilities at Austin headquarters and/or statewide.
  • Develop and implement techniques for evaluating program activities and/or business functions within Facilities.
  • Establish goals and objectives consistent with the division and agency strategic plan.
  • Develop policies, procedures, guidelines, schedules, priorities, and standards for achieving goals in Facilities.
  • Direct the operations of maintenance, construction, operations, environmental, energy, security, and ensure the programs adhere to all codes, standards, schedules, and statute.
  • Review and approve productivity and financial reports, budgets and major expenditures, studies, forecasts, business processes, inefficiencies, and modeling exercises.
  • Represent the agency and serve as the backup to the Director of Facilities at business meetings, hearings, trials, legislative sessions, conferences, and seminars or on boards, panels, and committees.
Requirements
  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Management, or Architectural Engineering.
  • Minimum of five (5) years experience in the management and direction of a program relevant to the assignment.
  • Valid driver's license from the state of residence.
  • Working knowledge of TXDPS, State and Federal regulations, legislation, guidelines, policies, and procedures.
  • Ability to develop plans, policies, and procedures for efficient workflow and overall effectiveness.
  • Ability to provide clear direction to others, promote teamwork, and motivate others to accomplish goals.
Working Conditions

The physical and environmental demands of this position include working in a fast-paced environment with frequent travel statewide by motor vehicle or aircraft to perform duties.

This position requires the ability to work in a safe manner at all times, avoiding shortcuts that have potential adverse results/risks, and must be able to comply with safety standards and best practices.

Telecommuting up to three (3) days per week is available, and travel statewide as dictated by business needs is required.
