Job Title: One-on-One Paraprofessional

At Choice Schools, we are seeking a dedicated and compassionate One-on-One Paraprofessional to join our team at Benton Harbor Charter School Academy. As a key member of our educational community, you will play a vital role in supporting students with diverse learning needs, fostering an inclusive and nurturing learning environment, and promoting academic growth and development.

Job Summary:

The One-on-One Paraprofessional will provide personalized assistance to students with disabilities, working closely with the Special Education team to develop and implement individualized care plans. This role requires a strong commitment to creating a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environment, where every student feels valued and empowered to succeed.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Support students with disabilities in a 1:1 capacity, providing individualized instruction and assistance as needed.
  • Collaborate with the Special Education team to develop and implement individualized care plans, ensuring students receive the support they need to succeed.
  • Assist the classroom teacher in organizing and distributing lesson materials, supporting instruction, and engaging students in learning activities.
  • Use resources effectively to support learning activities in the classroom, Academy, and community, under the direction of the classroom teacher.
  • Demonstrate exceptional classroom techniques, including questioning, clarity of assignments, and promoting mutual respect, independent thought, and expression.
  • Assist the classroom teacher in assessing learner needs, progress, and achievement, and maintaining individual student records.
  • Assume other responsibilities assigned by the classroom teacher or school leader.
Requirements:
  • Complete at least two years of study at an institution of higher education (equal to 60 semester hours); or obtain an associate's degree (or higher); or meet a rigorous standard of quality and demonstrate, through a formal state or local academic assessment:
    • Knowledge of and the ability to assist in, instructing reading, writing, and mathematics; or
    • Knowledge of and the ability to assist in, instructing reading readiness, writing readiness, and mathematics readiness, as appropriate.
  • Ability to communicate with students, staff, and guardians in a professional manner.
  • Excellent verbal and written expression using proper grammar and vocabulary.
  • Exemplary work habits verified by previous employers.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Valid Michigan teaching certification.
  • Experience working with at-risk students.
  • Experience in an educational setting with school-age children.
