Medical Laboratory Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Technologist to join our team at King's Daughters. As a Medical Technologist, you will play a critical role in providing accurate and timely laboratory results to support patient care.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct a range of laboratory tests, including chemical analyses of body fluids, to determine the presence of normal and abnormal components.
- Analyze and verify test results prior to release, ensuring accuracy and reliability.
- Perform quality control studies and routine preventative maintenance to ensure equipment is functioning properly.
- Respond to queries from healthcare team members, including physicians, in a timely and courteous manner.
- Assist in the orientation and training of new laboratory employees.
- Maintain professional growth and certification to stay up-to-date with the latest laboratory techniques and technologies.
- Perform STAT testing within established turn-around guidelines.
- Report malfunctioning equipment or computer issues to the supervisor immediately.
- Report test results that fall within laboratory panic values to the appropriate healthcare provider and document efforts to report panic values.
- Bring unusual or remarkable findings to the attention of the supervisor and/or pathologist.
- Minimum requirement: Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Laboratory Science or a related field.
- ASCP board-eligible to obtain Medical Laboratory Science ASCP certification or equivalent within 6 months of hire.
This role operates in a professional medical laboratory environment, with regular exposure to blood and/or body fluids and infection. Occasional exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals and risk of radiation may also occur.
Physical Demands- Occasional requirement to maintain a stationary position (standing or sitting).
- Frequent requirement to walk and move about.
- Frequent requirement to operate a computer and other equipment.
- Frequent requirement to use fine motor skills to handle and operate instruments/devices.
- Regular requirement to communicate with physicians and other care team members, requiring talking and hearing.
