Role Overview

We are looking for a skilled mechanical engineer to enhance our interdisciplinary team dedicated to projects involving substantial marine systems. This role emphasizes innovation and technical problem-solving, alongside effective collaboration with a diverse group of engineers and business professionals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop intricate designs for large-scale systems, ensuring adherence to industry standards and client specifications.
  • Engage in prototype development and testing to validate design hypotheses and guarantee structural integrity.
  • Conduct structural analyses and simulations to forecast the performance of large structures and weldments under varying conditions.
  • Assess and select suitable materials for constructing large components, considering factors such as strength, durability, and cost.
  • Create comprehensive technical documentation, including design specifications, testing reports, and analytical evaluations.
  • Identify and troubleshoot engineering challenges that may arise during the design, fabrication, and testing phases of large prototype systems.
  • Collaborate throughout the design process, actively contributing to finding optimal solutions with the engineering team.
  • Develop calculation tools and systems to enhance engineering processes.
  • Provide technical guidance to designers.
  • Generate free body diagrams for problem-solving.
  • Coordinate with clients and internal teams for general project management tasks.

Qualifications Required:

  • Master's or Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in mechanical design using SolidWorks.
  • 1-7 years of relevant experience in steel structure strength analysis.
  • Proficiency in FEA results analysis and interpretation.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to maintain confidentiality.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with metallic materials and weldments.
  • Understanding of marine systems.
  • Experience with the fabrication and construction of large steel structures.
  • Ability to coordinate fabrication efforts with external suppliers.
  • Knowledge of offshore standards (DNV, ABS, CCS, BV, etc.) is advantageous.
  • Effective communication and presentation skills.
  • Experience in assembling and testing large prototype systems.
  • Familiarity with Ansys is highly desirable.

Location:

Position based in Greater Boston, Massachusetts, with hybrid/in-person flexibility.
