Role Overview

We are looking for a skilled mechanical engineer to enhance our multidisciplinary team engaged in projects involving substantial marine systems. Your role will emphasize innovation and technical problem-solving, alongside effective collaboration with a diverse group of engineers and business professionals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop comprehensive designs for large-scale systems, ensuring adherence to industry standards and client specifications.
  • Engage in prototype development and testing to confirm design assumptions and maintain structural integrity.
  • Conduct structural analyses and simulations to forecast the performance of large structures and weldments under various conditions.
  • Select suitable materials for large component construction, considering factors such as strength, durability, and cost.
  • Prepare thorough technical documentation, including design specifications, testing reports, and analytical assessments.
  • Identify and resolve engineering challenges encountered during the design, fabrication, and testing phases of large prototype systems.
  • Collaborate throughout the design process with the engineering team to identify optimal solutions.
  • Develop calculation tools and systems to aid in design processes.
  • Provide technical guidance to designers.
  • Create free body diagrams for problem-solving.
  • Interface with clients and internal teams for project management tasks.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master's or Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • A minimum of 2 years of mechanical design experience using SolidWorks.
  • 1-7 years of experience in steel structure strength analysis.
  • Proficiency in FEA results analysis and interpretation.
  • Strong organizational skills with a commitment to confidentiality.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with metallic materials and weldments.
  • Knowledge of marine systems.
  • Experience with fabrication and construction methods for large steel structures.
  • Ability to coordinate fabrication efforts with external vendors.
  • Understanding of offshore standards (DNV, ABS, CCS, BV, etc.).
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Experience in assembling and testing large prototype systems.
  • Knowledge of Ansys is highly desirable.

Location:

Position based in Greater Boston, Massachusetts, with options for hybrid or in-person work.
