Position Overview:

The Assistant Purchasing Manager plays a crucial role in overseeing the procurement of materials, equipment, subcontracts, and temporary facilities essential for construction projects at The Middlesex Corporation. This position includes negotiating pricing, delivery schedules, and credit terms.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Adhere to and actively promote all safety policies and procedures, including the reporting of accidents, incidents, and near-misses to uphold our primary core value – Safety first in all endeavors.
  • Maintain current status updates for all projects to ensure timely procurement of materials and services.
  • Review contract plans and specifications for accuracy before soliciting proposals.
  • Collaborate with Project Management teams to ensure timely purchasing of materials and awarding of subcontracts to meet project timelines.
  • Coordinate the awarding of purchase orders and subcontracts with Estimating and Project Management teams.
  • Ensure that purchase orders and subcontracts are accurately drafted and complete.
  • Maintain Buyout Summaries to effectively track purchasing activities for each project.
  • Evaluate vendors and subcontractors based on financial stability and performance metrics.
  • Engage with sales representatives and potential subcontractors to expand supply sources.
  • Act as a liaison between Vendors, Subcontractors, and the Accounts Payable Department.

Qualifications:

  • Experience in construction is required; field or estimating experience is preferred.
  • A Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management is necessary.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, Access, PowerPoint, Publisher, and other graphics software) is essential.
