Job Summary

The Organ Allocation Specialist plays a critical role in Gift of Life Michigan's mission to facilitate life-saving transplants. This position requires collaboration with internal and external stakeholders to ensure seamless organ allocation, transportation logistics, and recovery coordination.

Key Responsibilities

The following duties and responsibilities are essential to the success of this role:

1. **Allocate organs to potential recipients nationwide** in compliance with Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network (OPTN) policy, ensuring accurate and timely matches.
2. **Manage communication** between multiple teams of medical professionals, external organ procurement organizations, and the UNOS Organ Center, fostering effective collaboration and information sharing.
3. **Coordinate logistics** for organs, blood/nodes for serological and histocompatibility testing, biopsies, surgical supplies, and transplant teams, ensuring efficient and timely transportation and delivery.
4. **Document and track** recovered organs, biopsies, transportation, chart review, placement, and feedback, in accordance with OPTN policy, to ensure accurate and up-to-date records.
5. **Serve as a primary source of information** during the allocation and procurement process, providing expert guidance and support to stakeholders.
6. **Analyze donor charts** and upload necessary clinical and social information to UNET, ensuring accuracy and completeness for match runs.
7. **Report laboratory test results**, including serologies, ABO, crossmatches, and cultures, in a timely and accurate manner, in accordance with Gift of Life and OPTN policy.
8. **Verify donor demographics** and ensure documentation is completed according to hospital and OPTN policy, maintaining accurate and compliant records.
9. **Utilize electronic medical record systems** to complete thorough documentation of all case events and communication, ensuring seamless information sharing and collaboration.
10. **Participate in performance improvement initiatives**, contributing to the continuous improvement of Gift of Life Michigan's transplant services and processes.

Requirements

This role requires a strong understanding of UNOS policy, organ allocation procedures, and transplant logistics. The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment. A high level of accuracy, attention to detail, and organizational skills are essential for success in this role.
