Job Summary

The Organ Recovery Specialist plays a critical role in the organ donation process, working closely with the Gift of Life Michigan team to ensure the successful recovery and preservation of organs for transplantation. This position requires a high level of technical skill, attention to detail, and strong communication abilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform abdominal, thoracic, and vascular composite allograft preservation during organ procurement cases to facilitate organ recovery for transplant, research programs, and education.
  • Package and label organs, tissues, and vascular composite allografts according to OPTN and Gift of Life policies.
  • Recover organs, tissues, and vascular composite allografts for research programs, clinical trials, and education.
  • Communicate effectively with Gift of Life team members and transplant center staff to ensure seamless organ and tissue donation.
  • Record and upload documentation of organ recovery in UNOS and Gift of Life electronic donor record per OPTN and organizational policies.
Requirements

  • Certified Surgical Technologist or associate degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Prior experience in a healthcare organization, transplant center, or organ/tissue procurement organization.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs, including Outlook and Teams.
  • Knowledge of surgical instrumentation, asepsis, and instrumentation.
  • Ability to set up surgical trays for various procedures and pass surgical instruments successfully.
