Job Overview

Position Summary:

  • The Accounts Receivable Specialist acts as the primary liaison for HELP-Hire Healthcare, collaborating with insurance providers, government agencies, and patients to facilitate the resolution of outstanding payments and account discrepancies.
  • Responsible for managing assigned accounts within designated work queues efficiently.
  • Maximizes reimbursement by assessing claims against contractual agreements using a contract management system for accurate pricing.
  • Initiates and manages appeals for underpayments, adhering to all necessary timelines to secure due reimbursements.
  • Handles payor and patient communications promptly and effectively.
  • Identifies and escalates accounts requiring appeals due to incorrect billing, coding, or underpayment issues.
  • Reports any new or unidentified billing discrepancies to the supervisor for further investigation and resolution.
  • Possesses a comprehensive understanding of the Revenue Cycle processes, from Patient Access through Patient Financial Services, including relevant policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrates in-depth knowledge of managed care agreements, current payor rates, and applicable federal and state regulations.
  • Interprets Explanation of Benefits (EOBs) and Electronic Remittance Advices (ERAs) to ensure accurate payments and assists patients and colleagues in understanding their benefit plans.
  • Familiar with hospital billing requirements, including UB04 and HCFA 1500 forms.
  • Knowledgeable about various payor types, including HMO, POS, PPO, EPO, Medicare Advantage, and government programs, and their claims processing methodologies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Effectively utilizes patient accounting systems to manage accounts.
  • Documents all communications and actions taken in the appropriate systems.
  • Accurately applies insurance plan codes.
  • Establishes payment plans for patients unable to pay in full at the time of service.
  • May evaluate eligibility for cash rates, special rates, and applicable discounts.
  • Handles accounts related to bankruptcy and deceased patients as necessary.

Required Skills & Experience:

  • A minimum of one year of experience in a hospital business environment or a strong background in customer service is required.
  • Basic understanding of insurance plans, hospital reimbursement processes, and familiarity with ICD10 and CPT coding.

Must have EPIC experience.
