Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Emergency Department Technician to join our team at WVU Medicine. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and support in our Emergency Department.

Key Responsibilities
  • Observe and report patient concerns and changes in condition to registered nurses immediately.
  • Assist registered nurses with admission, transfer, discharge, and general patient care duties.
  • Record vital signs, assist with personal hygiene, and provide patient comfort measures.
  • Assist with specimen collection and other patient care activities.
  • Maintain a clean and safe environment to prevent and control infections.
  • Report equipment repairs to appropriate personnel in a timely manner.
  • Prepare patients for examinations and diagnostic procedures.
  • Communicate with RN regarding nutrition issues and diet changes.
  • Assist with administrative tasks to support department operations.
  • Answer patient call bells and relay messages to appropriate personnel.
  • Perform assigned tests, such as glucose monitoring and urine testing.
  • Assist with care of drainage devices and maintain accurate output.
  • Transport specimens to the lab as needed.
  • Collect blood samples as per physician order.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Obtain certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire date.
  • Two years of college in an applicable course of study (nursing, biology, physical therapy, sports medicine, or related field) OR Two years' experience in an Emergency Department or pre-hospital setting.
