Job Description:

The Accounting Director plays a crucial role in providing strategic direction and guidance in financial operations and planning. This position involves establishing the strategic plan, goals, and objectives; developing policies, procedures, and guidelines; establishing priorities, standards, and measurement tools for determining progress in meeting goals; and coordinating and evaluating program activities and/or business functions. The Accounting Director supervises the work of others and reports to the Chief Financial Officer.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Directs program activities and/or business functions within a department(s) or division(s).
  • Provides vision, leadership, and strategic direction of DSHS's accounting operations.
  • Directs General Ledger, Claims Unit (includes Travel Office), Revenue Management, Requisitions, Financial Reporting and other required accounting functions.
  • Develops and implements financial strategic plans, accounting policies, procedures, and best practices.
  • Oversees the collection, organization, analysis, and preparation of reports and studies, including management, productivity, and financial reports.
  • Reviews results of internal audits to provide overall direction and guidance on financial operations to foster efficient and effective delivery of financial services to the agency.
  • Develops policies, procedures, and guidelines, and monitors compliance.
  • Works with the CFO to develop and oversee the implementation of the agency and Finance long-term goals in the accounting operations.
Requirements:
  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience managing teams.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in accounting.
