Position Overview

The Hydroelectric Plant Technician II plays a crucial role in the operation and upkeep of hydropower facilities. Under the supervision of a Hydroelectric Plant Technician Supervisor and with support from a senior technician, the incumbent is responsible for executing intricate technical tasks involving control systems, communication networks, electrical systems, and mechanical apparatus associated with the management and maintenance of generating and pumping stations, switchyards, and water conveyance systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct complex technical work on various equipment related to the operation of State Water Project facilities.
  • Ensure adherence to safety protocols while performing duties in potentially hazardous environments.
  • Collaborate effectively with team members and work independently when required.
  • Participate in ongoing training and certification programs to maintain compliance with industry standards.

Physical and Technical Requirements

This role necessitates the following physical capabilities:

  • Ability to lift and transport heavy equipment or materials weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Stamina to perform tasks involving bending, stooping, kneeling, and stretching.
  • Capability to climb ladders and navigate stairs, scaffolding, and towers.
  • Proficiency in identifying color-coded components and reading various display data.
  • Comfortable working in confined spaces and around loud machinery.

Work Environment

The position requires flexibility in working hours, including potential weekends, to support operational needs. Employees are expected to contribute to a diverse and inclusive workplace that prioritizes safety and respect.

Additional Information

Employees must possess a valid California Driver License for travel between facilities. Successful completion of safety training is mandatory. This position is subject to background checks and substance abuse testing as per regulatory requirements.
