Job Overview

Full-time faculty members serve as professional educators, primarily responsible for advancing the College's mission, vision, values, strategic initiatives, and educational philosophy. The main objective is to deliver a high-quality education to all students enrolled at the institution. Faculty members are categorized into ranks such as Instructor, Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, and Professor, and are expected to adhere to Board policies, including academic freedom and its associated responsibilities. The faculty member's role encompasses being a leader, educator, adviser, mentor, and facilitator of learning. This position focuses on introductory, general, and advanced chemistry instruction.

Instruction & Student Learning

  • Delivers assigned courses as per the schedule and takes primary responsibility for overseeing the curriculum in alignment with departmental policies, ensuring program rigor and instructional quality.
  • Designs a curriculum that embraces diversity to nurture student talent while employing inclusive teaching strategies, considering the sociocultural issues faced by traditionally underrepresented groups.
  • Adapts learning activities to accommodate individual student differences.
  • Identifies students with academic or other needs and responds by utilizing appropriate resources.
  • Integrates technology effectively to meet course objectives and clearly communicates expectations regarding its use to students.
  • Maintains accurate records in accordance with the Faculty Handbook and departmental guidelines.
  • Tracks attendance, determines and submits grades in a timely manner, and provides progress feedback and other relevant information to students throughout the semester.
  • Creates and maintains accurate syllabi that meet departmental, college, and instructor requirements.
  • Participates in selecting appropriate materials to support the course curriculum as per the College's guidelines.
  • Conducts classes punctually and in accordance with the established meeting schedule.
  • Employs and assists in developing effective assessment techniques to evaluate student performance in achieving course objectives.
  • Facilitates learning in both in-person and virtual environments.

Student Engagement & Advisement

  • Fosters a positive classroom environment that promotes active and collaborative learning, academic challenge, and student-faculty interaction.
  • Maintains posted office hours in compliance with departmental policies.
  • Utilizes technology to enhance communication with students.
  • Encourages a sense of community among students for learning both inside and outside the classroom.
  • Advises students on program, career, or transfer options to assist with degree completion.
  • Refers students to relevant academic and support services available at the College or in the community.

Continuous Improvement

  • Promotes ongoing improvement in teaching and learning by assisting in maintaining instructional materials and laboratory facilities, contributing to the development and enhancement of instructional resources, and providing guidance in course descriptions and syllabi.
  • Completes all mandatory performance evaluations within specified timeframes and participates in required training.
  • Shares best practices with colleagues in both formal and informal settings, and engages in instructional research to enhance educational effectiveness.
  • Evaluates teaching and assessment practices for continuous improvement and provides feedback on departmental operations.
  • Participates in the interviewing, selection, and orientation of department faculty and staff as appropriate.
  • Offers advice and assistance to faculty within the department or College.
  • Attends faculty meetings as called by administration and participates in departmental and divisional committees as appropriate.

Professional Development

  • Maintains a personal portfolio for tenure and promotion review and other career-related needs.
  • Utilizes student, administrative, and self-evaluations to set professional development goals and engages in relevant activities.
  • Contributes to the planning and evaluation of college professional development programs.
  • Maintains required professional credentials and continuing education as dictated by disciplinary standards.

Culture of Respect

  • Promotes a safe environment of respect and inclusion for faculty, staff, students, and community members.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Chemistry from an accredited institution.
  • Experience with procedures in a teaching/learning laboratory setting.

Additional Information

  • State Motor Vehicle Operator's License or the ability to access work sites.
  • This is a teaching position based at the designated campus.

Compensation Details

9-Month Instructor Salary: $47,160 - $60,086

Optional Summer Semester (Full load): $15,257 - $17,088
Optional Overload (maximum amounts shown):

  • Autumn Semester (12 contact hours max): $11,520
  • Spring Semester (12 contact hours max): $11,520
  • Summer Semester (9 contact hours max): $8,640

Working Conditions

  • Classroom environments may include in-person or online modalities.
