Position Summary

We are currently seeking a skilled Optics and Spectroscopy Scientist to join our team. This role involves directing and executing projects related to electro-optical sensor and emitter design. The ideal candidate will have a strong interest in developing instrumentation for analyzing optical phenomena and material characteristics.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the design and development of systems from initial feasibility to production.
  • Conduct simulations to validate concepts and meet manufacturing specifications.
  • Document system usage and procedures throughout the development lifecycle.
  • Engage in laboratory work, including optical bench development and prototype integration.
  • Develop concepts for sensor systems aimed at detecting hazardous materials.
  • Design and execute experiments to test new sensor systems.
  • Collaborate with engineers and scientists to transition prototypes into market-ready products.
  • Support data interpretation and analysis, including the development of automated analysis algorithms.
  • Manage project timelines and direct tasks to ensure deadlines are met.
  • Prepare reports, test plans, presentations, and other necessary documentation.
  • Occasional travel may be required for field testing.
Qualifications
  • Master's degree in physics, chemistry, engineering, or a related field.
  • A minimum of four years of research experience.
  • Proven experience in experimental development and testing of analytical instrumentation.
  • Familiarity with laser and LED emitters.
  • Strong data analysis skills, particularly with large datasets.
  • Experience in designing and implementing laboratory or field tests.
  • Knowledge of designing electro-optical systems for extreme conditions.
  • Proficiency in analytical software tools (e.g., Matlab, R, Python, C#, LabVIEW).
  • Experience with Microsoft Office for reporting and presentations.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • U.S. Citizenship with eligibility for a DoD Secret security clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Active DoD Secret security clearance.
  • Ph.D. in physics, chemistry, engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Experience with CAD software for mechanical or optical design.
  • At least eight years of research experience.
  • Experience with U.S. DoD contracts.
