Job Overview

The faculty's relationship with students is one of leadership, teaching, advising, mentoring, and facilitating learning. This role focuses on introductory, general, and advanced chemistry instruction.
Instruction & Student Learning
- Conducts assigned courses as per the schedule and takes primary responsibility for the curriculum in alignment with departmental policies, ensuring program rigor and instructional quality.
- Develops a curriculum that embraces diversity and promotes inclusive teaching strategies, while being mindful of the sociocultural issues affecting traditionally underrepresented groups.
- Recognizes individual student differences to create and support a variety of effective learning activities.
- Identifies students with academic or other needs and responds by utilizing appropriate resources.
- Employs technology effectively in line with course objectives and clearly communicates expectations regarding its use to students.
- Maintains accurate records in accordance with the Faculty Handbook and departmental policies.
- Tracks attendance, determines and submits grades promptly, and communicates progress feedback and other relevant information to students throughout the semester.
- Creates and maintains accurate syllabi that meet departmental, college, and instructor requirements.
- Participates in selecting suitable materials to support course curriculum in line with College guidelines.
- Conducts classes punctually and adheres to the prescribed meeting schedule.
- Designs and implements appropriate assessment techniques to evaluate student performance in achieving course objectives.
- Facilitates learning in both in-person and virtual environments.
Student Engagement & Advisement
- Fosters a positive classroom environment that encourages active and collaborative learning, academic challenge, and interaction between students and faculty.
- Maintains posted office hours in accordance with departmental policies.
- Utilizes technology to enhance communication with students.
- Encourages a sense of community among students for learning both inside and outside the classroom.
- Advises students on program, career, or transfer options to assist with degree completion.
- Refers students to appropriate academic support services available at the College or in the community.
Continuous Improvement
- Promotes ongoing improvement in teaching and learning by assisting in the maintenance of instructional materials and laboratory facilities, contributing to the development and enhancement of instructional resources, and recommending curriculum modifications.
- Completes all mandatory performance evaluations within specified timeframes and participates in required training.
- Shares best practices with colleagues in various settings and engages in research to enhance educational effectiveness.
- Evaluates teaching and assessment methods to foster continuous improvement.
- Participates in the interviewing, selection, and orientation of department faculty and staff as needed.
- Provides guidance and support to faculty within the department.
- Attends faculty meetings and participates in departmental and divisional committees as required.
Professional Development
- Maintains a personal portfolio for tenure and promotion review and other career-related needs.
- Utilizes student, administrative, and self-evaluations to set professional development goals and engages in relevant activities.

Minimum Qualifications
- Master's Degree in Chemistry from an accredited institution.
- Experience in a teaching/learning laboratory setting.
Additional Information
- State Motor Vehicle Operator's License or ability to access work sites.
- This is a teaching position based at the designated campus.

Optional Summer Semester (Full load): $15,257 - $17,088
