Since its establishment in 1965, Tacoma Community College has provided quality, affordable education to over 500,000 individuals. Serving various communities, TCC educates approximately 11,000 students each year, many of whom are first-generation college attendees. A significant portion of our student body receives financial aid, and many balance work and studies. TCC operates multiple campuses, including the main campus and additional sites, to accommodate diverse learning needs.


Position Overview

This part-time hourly role involves supporting classroom educators during breaks and planning periods to ensure compliance with Early Achievers', NAC, ECEAP, EHS, and DCYF standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Adhere to DSHS regulations (WAC).
  • Apply Developmentally Appropriate Practices to foster the physical, emotional, social, and cognitive growth of infants, toddlers, and preschoolers.
  • Utilize respectful guidance techniques that honor each child's individuality and developmental stage.
  • Collaborate with the Lead Teacher to design and implement suitable curriculum for toddlers or preschoolers.
  • Encourage language acquisition and promote independence and self-help skills.
  • Monitor and assess each child's development, discussing observations with the Lead Teacher.
  • Contribute as a team member, which may include supervising and guiding the work of others.
  • Communicate effectively with the Program Manager and Lead Teacher regarding program operations and child development.
  • Engage in staff meetings and professional development activities.
  • Evaluate classroom and program strengths and needs periodically, providing feedback to the Program Manager or Lead Teacher.
  • Maintain open, professional communication with parents, addressing concerns with the Lead Teacher or Program Manager.
  • Follow policies outlined in the Early Learning Center Handbook and Personnel Handbook.
  • Supervise in the absence of core teaching staff.
  • Perform additional related duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least six months of experience in an early childhood program.
Preferred Qualifications
  • One year of experience in an early childhood setting.
  • 20 credits in early childhood education or a combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in an Early Head Start Program.
  • Infant/Toddler certification.
Employment Conditions
  • Successful completion of a criminal history background check prior to employment.
  • Possession of a valid food handler's card.
  • Completion of a TB Test prior to employment.
  • Valid CPR/First Aid certification.
  • Regular and predictable attendance is required.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks such as bending, reaching, and lifting children weighing up to 35 to 45 pounds.

Terms of Employment
This part-time hourly position is governed by applicable regulations and is scheduled for varied hours up to 17 hours per week, Monday through Friday. Flexibility in scheduling is essential to meet departmental needs. The hourly wage is $16.28. A collective bargaining agreement may require membership in the Washington Federation of State Employees or payment of a service fee. Part-time hourly and student employees, including work-study students, will accrue paid sick leave. Non-student hourly employees may be eligible for a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, and vision insurance, as well as life and long-term disability insurance and retirement benefits.
