The Spirit Wings & Spirit Direct Pilot Pathway initiatives provide a streamlined route for pilots engaged in our partnered flight schools or university programs to ascend to the role of First Officer with Spirit Airlines.
Throughout the duration of the program, cadets will benefit from:
- Expert mentorship and training from seasoned members of the Flight Operations team.
- A comprehensive Spirit Electronic Flight Bag (EFB) with early access to essential training resources for the Airbus A320 series.
- Subscriptions to Foreflight & Jeppesen Pro provided by Spirit.
- Participation in an annual "Spirit Day" event featuring presentations, training opportunities, and networking with Flight Operations leadership.
Part 61 & 141 Flight School Standards:
- A minimum of 500 hours of total flight time.
- Possession of a Commercial Pilot Certificate.
- A recommendation from faculty or chief instructor at the partner school.
- A current FAA First Class Medical Certificate.
- FCC Radio Telephone Operator Permit.
- A valid passport with at least nine (9) months of validity for international travel.
- Legal authorization to work in the United States.
University Program Standards:
- Completion of the sophomore year in an accredited aviation degree program.
- A recommendation from faculty or chief instructor at the partner university.
- A current FAA First Class Medical Certificate or the ability to obtain one prior to ATP/CTP and Jet Transition courses.
- FCC Radio Telephone Operator Permit.
- A valid passport with at least nine (9) months of validity for international travel.
- Legal authorization to work in the United States.
Selected candidates must fulfill all program requirements and comply with FAA regulations for an Unrestricted ATP or Restricted ATP (if enrolled in the university program) and complete a final program review. All cadets are required to attend ATP/CTP and a Spirit-specific A320 Jet Transition course before being assigned a new hire class date. Once a class date is available, cadets will undergo pre-employment testing and background checks prior to their assignment.
First Officer Responsibilities
- Ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all Spirit guests.
- Assist the captain in operating the aircraft in compliance with all Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs) and company policies.
- Exhibit a commitment to customer service and a fresh perspective within the airline industry.
- Perform additional duties as assigned, which may vary based on circumstances (e.g., emergencies, workload changes, or technical developments).
