Job Title: Deputy Sheriff Pilot

Job Summary:

The Broward County Sheriff's Office is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Deputy Sheriff Pilot to join our Aviation Division. As a Deputy Sheriff Pilot, you will be responsible for operating helicopters in support of law enforcement operations, including search and rescue, surveillance, and patrol duties.

Responsibilities:

  • Operate rotary wing aircraft in support of law enforcement operations
  • Perform pre-flight, in-flight, and post-flight checks
  • Conduct detailed flight plans and ensure proper fueling and operations readiness of aircraft
  • Perform routine cleaning and maintenance on aircraft and rotor blades
  • Conduct training flights to enhance air operations, safety, and coordination with other units
  • Perform law enforcement patrol activities, including traffic stops, searches, and arrests
  • Conduct law enforcement investigations, including gathering evidence and interviewing witnesses
  • Perform court process actions, including serving and accounting for process actions

Requirements:

  • Valid Florida driver's license
  • Commercial Pilot's License for rotary wing aircraft/helicopter
  • Instrument rating
  • Minimum of 500 hours of flight time as a pilot-in-command
  • 100 hours of flight time in a turbine helicopter
  • 100 hours of rotorcraft-helicopter night flight time
  • First or Second Class Medical Certificate
  • Background investigation and polygraph examination

Working Conditions:

Employees in this classification are assigned to work shifts, including weekends, holidays, and extended emergency activation events. Employees must have the ability to work any shift and engage in flexible work assignments that can include voluntary and/or mandatory overtime to meet agency needs.
