**Job Summary**
The Patient Access Specialist at Iredell Memorial Hospital is responsible for the efficient and effective operation of the Patient Accounting Department. This role requires strong communication and organizational skills to ensure seamless patient registration and billing processes.
**Key Responsibilities**
- Manage patient demographics, billing, and limited clinical data relevant to the current encounter
- Collaborate with fellow employees and the public to discuss patients' records, insurances, and other relevant information
- Process patient registrations, verify insurance information, and handle billing inquiries
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records
- Ensure compliance with Medicare, Medicaid, welfare agencies, and insurance regulations
**Requirements**
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
- Two-year college degree in Business or a related field preferred
- Two (2) years or more of on-the-job experience in a similar position desired
- Proficiency in English, typing, and calculator usage required
- Good working knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, welfare agencies, and insurances necessary
- Ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds
**Physical Requirements**
- Full range of body motion to pass basic FIT test for position
- Ability to walk, kneel, stand, push, pull, bend, stoop, reach, and sit for extended periods
