Job Overview

Sonic Automotive is seeking a highly motivated and results-driven Used Car Buyer to join our team. As a key member of our sales team, you will be responsible for executing a process that involves prospecting, appraising, and presenting offers to current vehicle owners with the goal of purchasing their vehicles for resale.

Key Responsibilities
  • Interface with current used vehicle owners from multiple resources to purchase their vehicles.
  • Approach, greet, and interface with dealership customers to appraise and offer to purchase their current vehicles.
  • Utilize Sonic Automotive's automated inventory management system to streamline the purchasing process.
  • Stay up-to-date on market trends and changes to trends in the geographic market to make informed purchasing decisions.
  • Provide guidance and support to dealership Sales Associates as it relates to purchasing used vehicles.
  • Appraise used vehicles to determine their value and make informed purchasing decisions.
  • Attend daily trade walks to identify potential purchasing opportunities.
  • Exhibit a high level of commitment to guest satisfaction and provide exceptional customer service.
  • Stay knowledgeable about federal, state, and local laws that govern retail automotive sales.
  • Establish personal income goals that are consistent with dealership standards of productivity and devise a strategy to meet those goals.
  • Attend product and sales training courses as requested by the General Manager or Sales Managers.
  • Stay up-to-date on new products, features, accessories, and their benefits to guests.
  • Explain depreciation to guests and provide them with accurate information about the value of their vehicles.
  • Introduce guests to sales department personnel to sell them a new vehicle after purchasing their existing vehicle.
  • Maintain an owner follow-up system to encourage repeat and referral business and contribute to guest satisfaction.
  • Maintain a prospect development system of current used vehicle prospects and schedule appointments to appraise and purchase used vehicles.
  • Attend sales meetings to stay informed about dealership goals and objectives.
  • Maintain a safe work environment and adhere to all safety protocols.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and adhere to all dress code policies.
  • Realize that the company's business is built on guest satisfaction and devote yourself to guaranteeing satisfaction to guests.
  • Determine management, production, and quality requirements by asking questions and listening.
  • Attend Sonic meetings as requested and maintain a follow-up system to encourage follow-through with assigned projects.
  • Report to your supervisor regarding objectives, planned activities, reviews, and analyses.
  • Review and analyze actions at the end of each day, week, month, and year to determine how to better utilize time and plans more effectively.
  • Stay knowledgeable about the terminology of the business and keep abreast of technology changes in the product.
  • Follow directions from your supervisor and understand and follow work rules and procedures.
  • Accept constructive criticism and interact well with others to be a positive influence on associate and guest morale.
Qualifications
  • A college degree is preferred but not required; a high school diploma or the equivalent is required.
  • A high level of customer service is required.
  • The ability to read and comprehend instructions and information is necessary.
  • A professional personal appearance is required.
  • Excellent communication skills are necessary.
  • The ability to meet company production and quality standards is required.
  • Outstanding computer skills are required.
  • Previous dealership, selling, or marketing experience is preferred.
