Factors such as individual experience, skills, and capabilities will influence the final placement within the pay scale.

The Role You Will Undertake (including but not limited to):


The Lab Technician plays a crucial role within the Environmental, Health, and Safety Group, reporting directly to the Environmental Manager.


This position involves conducting laboratory tests for mill operations, performing environmental compliance assessments, managing testing supplies and equipment, and analyzing results to identify issues and suggest enhancements.


The role requires familiarity with standard laboratory testing procedures, field sampling execution, calculation of test outcomes, verification of accuracy, and timely communication of results to relevant personnel with minimal supervision.


Additional Responsibilities May Include:

  • Conducting independent non-routine experiments and laboratory tasks
  • Supporting mill trials
  • Composing technical reports summarizing findings, conclusions, and recommendations
  • Assisting in training fellow technicians
  • Identifying and spearheading constructive changes within the work area
  • Analyzing data trends through graphs and correlations with process knowledge
  • Completing river studies


The ideal candidate will possess strong interpersonal skills and be capable of collaborating with all mill personnel to foster a safe working environment.

The individual will demonstrate effective written and verbal communication skills.


Under the guidance of the Environmental Manager, the successful candidate will collaborate with mill management to establish specific objectives aimed at enhancing mill performance in the EHS&S domain.


Essential Skills Required:

  • A technical degree or equivalent field of study is required
  • Experience in an environmental laboratory is preferred
  • Willingness to obtain a boat operator's license within 60 days of employment
  • Availability to work weekends and holidays as needed
  • Experience in the paper manufacturing sector is highly preferred
  • Proficiency in Microsoft and SAP applications
  • A commitment to continuous learning and the ability to develop direct reports
  • A self-motivated and goal-oriented team player
