As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will leverage your technical knowledge to enhance the performance and dependability of a vast array of wind and solar utility-scale operations. Your role will involve providing engineering assistance related to mechanical elements in wind and solar systems, including drivetrain assemblies, wind blades, hydraulic mechanisms, generators, towers, foundations, fasteners, and solar tracking systems. You will respond to site-specific requirements as they emerge, addressing diverse challenges with a mindset focused on continuous improvement while collaborating with site teams and managing projects aimed at boosting operational efficiency.
  • Act as the primary engineering support to enhance asset availability and resolve operational issues, striving to meet key performance indicators for equipment reliability and availability through the application of engineering principles, design documents, and operational insights.
  • Evaluate damage to critical components, classify the severity, and offer repair or troubleshooting recommendations to Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs).
  • Oversee and assess mechanical performance by analyzing and trending results from various inspections, monitoring systems, and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) outputs.
  • Deliver prompt and effective follow-up actions based on identified issues, trends, and root cause analyses.
  • Serve as a technical liaison within and outside the organization, independently addressing technical matters.
  • Provide mechanical consulting to teams within ENGIE to validate OEM recommendations, third-party Independent Engineer (IE) assessments, and independent service providers.
  • Negotiate critical and complex issues with senior engineers and executives from other organizations.
  • Support multiple wind and solar facilities across North America.
  • Make informed decisions and recommendations that significantly impact extensive engineering and related activities for the organization.
  • Identify and mitigate equipment faults/failures utilizing established Root Cause Analysis methodologies, such as 8 Disciplines (8D) Problem Solving and Six Sigma.
  • Oversee subcontractors during site maintenance tasks as necessary.
  • Assess and implement mechanical enhancement and pilot initiatives.
  • Develop business cases, economic justifications, and budget proposals.
  • Manage the implementation plan: create Request For Quotes (RFQs), evaluate bids and contracts, award Purchase Orders (POs), oversee contractors and costs in the field, and monitor effectiveness.
  • Formulate scope, schedule, and review End of Warranty inspections for major components, filing necessary claims with generation equipment OEMs.
  • Participate in and support site safety and environmental management systems, ensuring safety and environmental considerations are integrated into all activities.
  • Maintain mechanical engineering and repair documentation to ensure accuracy and high quality across the North American fleet.
  • Develop and deliver training, standard operating procedures, and technical documentation as needed for safe and efficient operations.
  • Present technical information and findings to site personnel, management, directors, and VP of operations.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience.
  • Experience in the Renewable Energy sector.
  • Proficient in conducting root cause analyses.
  • Familiarity with industry standards and best practices, including those from the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), DNV/GL, The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), and others.
  • Knowledge of mechanical operations and maintenance across various manufacturers.
  • Experience in developing engineering tools using programming languages such as Matlab, Python, or SQL.
  • Exhibit a high degree of creativity, foresight, and sound judgment in planning and guiding extensive engineering programs.
  • Ability to manage complex programs critical to overall company objectives.
  • Strong planning, scheduling, and project management skills with the capability to work independently.
  • Advanced computer and analytical skills, including proficiency in MS Office products like Excel, SharePoint, and PowerBI.
Additional Information

  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally up to 20% of the time, including some overnight trips.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and maintain a clean driving record.
  • Compliance with ENGIE's COVID vaccination and testing policy is required.
  • Adherence to all ENGIE ethics and safety policies is essential.
