Your Role
The Senior Mechanical Process Engineer will take charge of the mechanical engineering design for process equipment across various sectors, including specialty chemicals, food and beverage, consumer products, and pharmaceuticals. This role is situated within the Process Engineering Department, where you will lead design initiatives and mentor junior engineers to foster their development.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct site visits, audits, and walk-downs to collect field data for projects.
- Develop and outline discipline scope, deliverables, assumptions, and budget estimates for proposals.
- Lead engineering evaluations to assess the mechanical performance of existing process equipment.
- Prepare comprehensive reports and drawings to recommend repairs, replacements, and reinforcements for fixed equipment.
- Execute tank rating calculations for low-pressure tanks and pressure vessels.
- Perform nozzle load calculations.
- Prepare and review specifications for piping, insulation, and process equipment.
- Conduct vendor drawing reviews and evaluate technical bids for process equipment.
Additional Responsibilities
- Act as Lead Engineer for the supply and distribution of process utilities, including compressed air, chilled water, cooling water, natural gas, potable water, and steam services.
- Provide construction support, startup, and commissioning oversight.
- Collaborate directly with clients, design discipline counterparts, and project management teams.
- Ensure adherence to discipline scope, schedules, and budgets, including managing change orders.
- Update forecasts for all discipline staff on assigned projects.
- Mentor less experienced engineers and conduct training sessions.
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering.
- A minimum of 10 years of relevant experience.
- Willingness to travel to project sites for field information gathering, typically up to 7 days at a time, several times a year.
- Familiarity with ASME B31 Code, particularly B31.1 and B31.3.
- Knowledge of ASME BPVC, specifically VIII Div 1 & 2.
- Understanding of API Standards, including 510, 570, 650, and 653.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional Engineer licensure is strongly preferred.
- Proficiency in engineering software such as AMETank, COMPRESS, PIPE-FLO, and PV Elite.
- Experience with CAESAR II and knowledge of AutoCAD & Revit.
- Demonstrated experience in mentoring and leading technical teams.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks effectively.
- Critical thinking skills and experience in target value engineering.
Reporting Structure
The Senior Mechanical Process Engineer will report to the Process Department Manager, who possesses extensive experience in engineering consultancy and management.
