Your Role at BSI
The Senior Mechanical Process Engineer will take charge of the mechanical engineering design for process equipment utilized in specialty chemical, food & beverage, consumer products, and pharmaceutical sectors. This position is situated within the Process Engineering Department, where you will lead design initiatives and mentor junior engineers to cultivate their skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct site visits, walk downs, and audits to collect field data for projects.
- Develop discipline scope, deliverables, assumptions, and budget estimates for proposals.
- Lead engineering assessments to analyze the mechanical performance of existing process equipment.
- Prepare detailed reports and drawings with recommendations for repair, replacement, and reinforcement of fixed equipment.
- Execute tank rating calculations for low-pressure tanks and pressure vessels.
- Perform nozzle load calculations.
- Draft and review specifications for piping, insulation, and process equipment.
- Review vendor drawings and evaluate technical bids for process equipment.
- Act as Lead Engineer for process utility supply and distribution systems, including compressed and instrument air, chilled water, cooling water, natural gas, potable water, and steam & condensate services.
- Oversee and actively participate in construction support, startup, and commissioning activities.
- Collaborate directly with clients, other design disciplines, and project management teams.
- Ensure adherence to discipline scope, schedules, and budgets, including the submission of change orders.
- Update forecasts for all discipline staff on assigned projects.
- Mentor less experienced engineers and conduct training sessions.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering.
- A minimum of 10 years of relevant experience.
- Willingness to travel to project job sites for field information gathering, typically up to 7 days several times a year.
- Familiarity with ASME B31 Code, particularly B31.1 and B31.3.
- Knowledge of ASME BPVC, specifically VIII Div 1 & 2.
- Understanding of API Standards, including 510, 570, 650, and 653.
Desired Qualifications
- Professional Engineer licensure is strongly preferred.
- Proficiency in AMETank, COMPRESS, PIPE-FLO, and PV Elite engineering software.
- Experience with CAESAR II.
- Knowledge of AutoCAD and Revit.
- Background in mentoring and leading technical teams.
- Strong written, oral, and teleconference communication skills.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks effectively.
- Critical thinking skills and capability to perform target value engineering.
Reporting Structure
The Senior Mechanical Process Engineer will report to the Process Department Manager, who has extensive experience in engineering consultancy and management.
