Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Downstream Process Development Scientist to join our mRNA Drug Substance team at GlaxoSmithKline. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for designing, executing, and analyzing experiments to develop and optimize RNA downstream processes. Your expertise will be crucial in shaping our current and next-generation mRNA vaccine platforms to accelerate the development of new vaccine candidates.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, execute, and analyze experiments to develop and optimize RNA downstream processes, ensuring phase-appropriate and scalable processes.
- Lead transversally process development activities and collaborate with other teams to ensure good communication and alignment.
- Drive innovative solutions and meet project milestones, staying up-to-date on industry trends and emerging technologies in downstream processing.
- Work within a global downstream team, collaborating with other DS teams, Analytical R&D, and GMP teams to ensure seamless project delivery.
Requirements:
- MS degree in Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, Bioengineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related scientific field.
- Five (MS level) or three (PhD level) or more years of industry experience in downstream process development for large biomolecules, preferably mRNA and pDNA.
- Three or more years of experience in overall process development and analytical development activities required for CMC support.
Preferred Qualifications:
- PhD degree in Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, Bioengineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related scientific field.
- Experience with Quality by Design, DOE studies, and high-throughput screening for purification process improvements.
- Knowledge of the large molecule regulatory environment, particularly FDA/ICH/ISPE guidelines on risk management, technology transfer, and process validation.
- Experience and understanding in nucleic acid analytical technologies.
