Job Overview

Position Summary:

This contract role is designed to enhance the operational frameworks of the USDA Office of the CIO's Information Security Center. The position focuses on Cyber Policy Writing, requiring a candidate with substantial expertise in cybersecurity policy formulation.

This is a temporary surge support position expected to last approximately one year from the date of hire.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Drafting, revising, and formatting cybersecurity policies and procedures to establish formal cybersecurity guidelines.
  • Applying industry best practices and frameworks such as NIST, FISMA, and ISO.
  • Identifying opportunities for process enhancements and tool improvements.
  • Assessing and providing constructive feedback to improve documentation quality and processes.
  • Publishing security policies and collaborating with management to ensure accessibility and timely communication of policy changes.

Essential Skills and Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 2 years' experience in technical documentation related to information security and compliance.
  • At least 3 years' experience in technical documentation.
  • Familiarity with leading practices and frameworks (NIST, FISMA, RMF, etc.).
  • In-depth knowledge and practical experience with security and risk management methodologies, frameworks, and technologies.
  • Comprehensive understanding of Information Security Compliance requirements.
  • Excellent proofreading abilities to evaluate team documentation.
  • Proficient in O365 applications, especially PowerPoint, Word, and Excel.
  • Comfortable presenting information to mid-level and senior management.
  • U.S. Citizenship is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with USDA or other governmental organizations is highly desirable.
  • Cybersecurity certifications such as CISSP, CRISC, CISA, CISM, or CASP are advantageous but not mandatory.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • 2-4 years of relevant experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent professional experience.

Travel Requirements:

  • No travel required.

Clearance Requirements:

  • Ability to obtain a Public Trust clearance.

Compensation:

  • Annual salary range of $110,000 - $120,000. This range is an estimate based on various experience levels and is intended to reflect the role's functions and responsibilities, as well as the candidate's background and skills.
