Job Summary

Amerantbank is seeking a highly skilled Credit Risk Specialist I to join our team. As a key member of our Credit Risk Department, you will be responsible for overseeing the calculation and preparation of the Allowance for Credit Losses (ACL) and Credit Risk SEC reports.

Key Responsibilities
  • ACL Calculation and Reporting: Oversee and calculate the ACL according to the approved methodology, which requires compiling all needed information from credit-related units, downloading loan portfolio data, and preparing the required reports.
  • Loss Factor Updates: Update the ACL loss factors, including prepayment, WARM, Vintage, qualitative adjustments, and transfer risk factors.
  • Annual Model Validations: Assist in the annual ACL model validations, both internal and external.
  • Regulatory Reporting: Liaise between Credit Risk and Financial Reporting to coordinate all regulatory reporting.
  • Credit Risk SEC Reporting: Prepare Credit Risk SEC, OCC, and other regulatory reports, ensuring they reconcile with Financial Reporting reports.
  • Monthly Credit Risk Data Updates: Update and maintain monthly Credit Risk data used by the department to prepare reports, track loan portfolio performance, and ACL adequacy.
  • Data Provision: Provide the Credit Risk department with required data from the Bank's loan subsystems, other department reports, and external sources.
  • Credit Risk Indicators: Review and report on credit risk indicators, including Enterprise Risk Management indicators.
  • Charge-off Approval Process: Coordinate the charge-off approval process (excluding operational-related losses) and maintain Charge-offs and Recoveries files for Credit Risk reporting.
  • Credit Risk Policy Maintenance: Assist in maintaining the Bank's Credit Risk policy as needed.
  • Quarterly Presentations: Prepare quarterly Credit Risk presentations for the Executive Committee and Board Risk Committee, as well as ad-hoc presentations and reports.
  • Procedure Manuals: Develop and update the Credit Risk Department's procedures manuals as required.
  • Risk Management: Identify, evaluate, monitor, and make recommendations to the Risk Management Committee to assess, reduce, eliminate, or control current or prospective risks to earnings or capital arising from violations of, or nonconformance with, laws, rules, regulations, prescribed practices, internal policies, and procedures, or ethical standards.
  • BSA/AML Compliance: Ensure preventive measures are carried out to fully comply with current rules, regulations, and internal policies relating to risks pertaining to BSA, USA Patriot Act, OFAC, and other AML-related issues.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Economics, or Accounting.
  • Experience: At least 1 year of experience in banking, ideally in credit risk modeling, and estimating CECL's Allowance for Credit Losses (ACL). Preferably someone who interned with a Financial Institution in a similar role.
  • Technical Skills: Expertise in using Excel, including lookup tables, pivot tables, charts, and macros. Good communication skills (written and oral). Expertise in PowerPoint and Word. Strong analytical and financial modeling skills. Ability to work under pressure (tight deadlines and shifting priorities). Good interpersonal skills. Fully bilingual (Spanish and English desirable).
