Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Process Control Specialist to join our team at Sonoco's Paper Mill in Hartsville, South Carolina. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for maintaining, upgrading, and optimizing the control and automation systems to ensure the safe and efficient operation of our mill.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in electrical, mechanical, or chemical engineering, with experience in PLC programming, AC and DC drives, control system network interfaces, and HMI configuration. You will work closely with our maintenance, engineering, and operations teams to continuously improve the safety, reliability, and productivity of our mill systems and equipment.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain, upgrade, and optimize control and automation systems
  • Provide day-to-day technical support and develop strategic plans for system modernization
  • Lead or participate in project teams involving control system upgrades and installations
  • Work with engineers, operations management, maintenance personnel, and contractors to develop and meet scope, budget, and schedule requirements on assigned projects
  • Develop and maintain documentation packages for bidding, installation, start-up, and maintenance of control system projects

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical, mechanical, or chemical engineering, or equivalent experience
  • Experience with PLC programming, AC and DC drives, control system network interfaces, and HMI configuration
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize multiple tasks
