Job Summary
Southern States Cooperative is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Applicator to join our team. As an Applicator, you will be responsible for preparing and spreading custom applications of agronomy products on customers' fields, including dry and/or liquid fertilizer, crop protectants, lime, and other treatment products.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare custom applications of dry fertilizer, crop protectants, and other treatment products according to customer work orders.
- Operate bulk spreading vehicles, including dry row spreaders, John Deere dry bodies, spreader trucks, and Terra-Gators, to apply dry fertilizer, crop protectants, and other treatment products to customers' fields.
- Maintain regular communication with the Applicator team and manager to ensure efficient scheduling and dispatching.
- Drive to customer locations using Southern States Cooperative vehicles and represent the company in a positive and customer-focused manner.
- Perform routine preventive maintenance and repair to keep equipment in good working condition.
- Assist with taking physical inventory of fertilizers, crop protectants, and related products, and adhere to inventory control initiatives.
- Participate in specialized training, certification courses, and meetings as required to enhance job performance.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) required.
- Previous experience applying fertilizer, crop protectants, and other treatment products, and/or working in an agricultural environment preferred.
- Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) required.
- Able to learn and effectively apply knowledge of applicator equipment operation, precision ag software and hardware, SSC applicator procedures, and government regulations.
- Able to work well independently and follow safety, quality control, and operating procedures at all times.
Work Environment
The Applicator will primarily perform essential job functions outdoors and may not be protected from weather conditions. The work environment may include exposure to hazards such as moving mechanical parts, noise levels, dust, odors, fumes, and hazardous chemicals.
Physical Activities and Requirements
The Applicator will be required to continuously bend, crouch, stoop, drive motorized equipment, and perform manual dexterity tasks. The role may also require frequent balancing, kneeling, shoveling, stacking, sweeping, and climbing steps in and out of vehicles.
