Overview


An Electrical Systems Technician plays a crucial role in the initiation, commissioning, integration, urgent service, and diagnostics of Electro Test Inc's 480VAC/15KVAC electrical switchgear systems. This includes power distribution units (PDU), automatic transfer switches (ATS), power distribution cabinets (PDC), circuit breakers, protective relays, programmable logic controllers (PLC), meters, and various automated devices, along with mechanical repairs and modifications under the guidance of senior technicians.

The technician is expected to foster, promote, and sustain strong relationships with customers, colleagues, sales personnel, and other relevant parties.

Continuous communication with the Customer Response Center (CRC), Supervisor, and direct manager is essential.


Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years of practical electronic experience or field service is preferred.
  • Training in electrical principles and technologies is required.
  • Experience or prior military service in relevant job functions is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with electrical/electronic testing instruments and fundamentals.
  • Ability to read schematics and blueprints related to power control and automation.
  • Knowledge of power distribution, AC/DC voltage circuit theory, and practical troubleshooting skills is desirable.
  • Background in electrical power systems, including low to medium voltage, with experience in switchgear testing is a plus.
  • Experience in programming PLCs and HMIs is beneficial.
  • Mechanical aptitude is necessary.
  • A High School Diploma or GED is required.
  • Proficient in standard computer applications including MS Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Specific vision abilities required for this role include close vision, distant vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Must be able to regularly lift at least 50 pounds.
  • A valid driver's license is mandatory.

Responsibilities


The Electrical Systems Technician is responsible for:

  • Assisting in the start-up commissioning, integration, urgent service, and troubleshooting of Electro Test Inc's 480VAC/15KVAC electrical switchgear.
  • Establishing and maintaining excellent rapport with all customers, colleagues, sales representatives, and other relevant parties.
  • Evaluating the operational conditions of equipment.
  • Interacting comfortably with all levels of internal and external customers.
  • Managing one's own schedule with self-motivation.
  • Performing general and preventive maintenance on switchgear.
  • Responding to emergency calls as requested by customers.
  • Aiming to provide a 'first-time fix' for customer equipment.
  • Delivering accurate and timely communication to both internal and external customers.
  • Monitoring and ensuring compliance with all safety policies, procedures, guidelines, and laws.
  • Providing accurate and timely reporting of time cards, expense reports, etc.

While executing the above responsibilities, the technician is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, tools, or other components; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk, hear, and smell. The technician frequently is required to sit and climb or balance.


Working Conditions:


This position requires travel, with individual assignments typically lasting 3 to 5 weeks. When on assignment, working schedules generally consist of 10-12 hours per day, 5-6 days per week, covering both day and night shifts. This is a hands-on field position with travel requirements up to 80%, which may include national and international locations. Flexible schedules may include weekends, evenings, and holidays.
