Position Overview

Compass Group is seeking dedicated individuals for our Culinary Internship Program, designed for aspiring culinary professionals.

  • Location: Internships available nationwide. Note: only online applications will be considered.
  • Schedule: To be discussed during the interview process.
  • Compensation: Starting at $17.00 per hour, depending on location.

Selected interns will enjoy complimentary meals, uniforms, and laundering services at select sites.

About the Internship: This paid internship provides culinary students with a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in a vibrant kitchen environment. Interns will work closely with experienced culinary mentors, gaining insight into the operations of a premier food service and hospitality organization. Our founding principles of culinary authenticity, a people-first approach, sustainability, wellness, and leadership continue to guide our practices.

Intern Responsibilities:

  • Assist in preparing menu items across various kitchen stations.
  • Rotate through different culinary stations including pizza/pasta, deli, salad bar, grill, and international cuisine.
  • Engage with guests to customize dishes according to dietary preferences.
  • Review culinary standards and front-of-house protocols.
  • Learn about wellness and sustainability initiatives.
  • Uphold exceptional customer service standards.
  • Consistently follow safety and sanitation guidelines.
  • Support catering events with setup and execution.
  • Build professional relationships and enhance interpersonal skills.

Interns are expected to contribute both individually and collaboratively to support Culinary Services, working towards objectives set by a seasoned manager.

Eligibility Criteria:

  1. Currently enrolled in a college or professional culinary program with documentation.
  2. Meet the university's GPA requirements for internships.
  3. Completion of sanitation standards training.
  4. Completion of relevant knife skills and/or introductory culinary coursework.
  5. Availability to work 20 – 40 hours per week based on business needs.
  6. College credit is not mandatory, but documentation can be provided if required.

Professional Development Opportunities:

In addition to hands-on culinary training, interns can participate in various enriching program events via online platforms during their internship, including:

  • Meetings with culinary leadership and mentors.
  • Connections with subject matter experts in diversity & inclusion, HR, marketing, safety & sanitation, wellness & sustainability, and finance.
  • Optional courses in food safety and workplace safety.
  • Networking opportunities with fellow interns.
  • Exit interviews with the internship team.
