FLIK Culinary Internship Program:

PROGRAM OVERVIEW: The FLIK Culinary Internship Program is a paid opportunity designed for culinary students to immerse themselves in a vibrant and innovative kitchen environment. Working alongside experienced culinary mentors, interns gain valuable insights into the operations of a leading food service and hospitality organization. FLIK was founded on principles of culinary authenticity, prioritizing people, sustainability, wellness, and leadership, which continue to guide our practices today. We emphasize the use of fresh, local, and seasonal ingredients to craft unforgettable culinary experiences.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF FLIK CULINARY INTERNS:

  • Prepare a variety of menu items across different kitchen stations.
  • Rotate through various culinary stations: pizza/pasta, deli, salad bar, grill, and international cuisine.
  • Interact with guests and customize dishes to meet their dietary preferences.
  • Review culinary and service standards.
  • Learn about wellness and sustainability initiatives.
  • Adhere to exceptional customer service standards.
  • Consistently implement safety and sanitation protocols.
  • Assist with catering events, including setup and execution.
  • Build professional relationships and enhance interpersonal skills.

Interns are expected to contribute both individually and collaboratively to support Culinary Services and achieve objectives set by experienced managers.

Eligibility Criteria for Culinary Internship Candidates:

  1. Must be currently enrolled in a college or professional culinary program with appropriate documentation.
  2. Meet the university's GPA requirements for internships.
  3. Successful completion of sanitation standards training.
  4. Completion of relevant knife skills and/or introductory culinary coursework.
  5. Availability to work 20 – 40 hours per week based on business needs and internship requirements.
  6. College credit is not mandatory, but documentation can be provided if needed.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITIES:

In addition to daily hands-on culinary training, interns can participate in various enriching program events via LMS/WebEx/Zoom/Teams during their internship, including:

  • Meetings with FLIK leadership or a mentor.
  • Connections with subject matter experts in diversity & inclusion, HR, marketing, safety & sanitation, wellness & sustainability, and finance through Office Hours.
  • Optional FLIK Learning & Development Courses (FARECheck Food Allergy Basics, Servsafe Food Handler, DAWSO Dining Associate Workplace Safety Orientation).
  • Networking opportunities with fellow interns.
  • Exit interviews with the internship team.
