Job Summary

The County of San Mateo is seeking highly qualified applicants for the position of Psychologist I/II-Behavioral Health and Recovery Services. This role involves providing professional psychological diagnostic and therapeutic services in a county program.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform professional psychological work involving evaluation and treatment of children and/or adults
  • Make diagnoses and provide psychotherapy and other kinds of psychological treatment
  • Select and administer psychological tests or observational procedures, interpret their results and prepare psychological evaluation reports
  • Carry out various kinds of treatment work such as individual or group psychotherapy, family therapy, crisis intervention, behavior modification and various types of group process experience
  • Provide mental health consultation appropriate to the needs of various professionals, agencies and community groups
  • Participate in developing preventive mental health procedures in segments of community life
  • Participate in regional or service unit research projects
  • Participate in the training of psychology trainees or other mental health disciplines
  • Provide psychological consultation to other mental health staff or personnel of other community agencies
  • Confer with patients' relatives regarding treatment and case management
  • Consult with psychiatrists, social workers and others in community agencies regarding psychological aspects of their work
  • Maintain mental health records and prepares reports
Requirements
  • Psychologist I: Application for a waiver in lieu of license to the State Department of Mental Health for Psychology
  • Psychologist II: California license in Clinical Psychology
  • Education and Experience: Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying
