Milwaukee, Wisconsin, United States Froedtert Health Full time

Job Overview:

The Lead Nursing Coordinator is a Registered Nurse responsible for overseeing patient flow and adjusting unit staffing to meet the evolving needs of patients. This role involves utilizing the nursing process to continuously evaluate patient acuity, assess the workload of nursing staff, and anticipate changes in admissions, discharges, and transfers. The Lead Nursing Coordinator plays a critical role in triaging and prioritizing admissions while managing the care coordination for patients being discharged or transferred.

Daily staffing decisions require effective judgment to ensure a safe balance between patient acuity and the availability, experience, and skills of nursing staff, thereby guaranteeing adequate staffing for all shifts. The Lead Nursing Coordinator is expected to exhibit resourcefulness, effective communication, flexibility, adaptability, decisiveness, and a comprehensive understanding of the hospital's overall needs. This individual serves as a clinical leader and resource within the unit, collaborating with the interdisciplinary team to enhance patient care progression and achieve unit objectives.

As needed, the Lead Nursing Coordinator will take on a patient assignment based on unit requirements. In collaboration with the Nurse Manager, this role includes monitoring and addressing opportunities to ensure regulatory compliance, quality effectiveness, and a positive patient experience. When functioning as a clinical Staff RN, the Lead Nursing Coordinator is accountable for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating nursing care for a designated group of patients in an inpatient setting, demonstrating proficiency in delivering care primarily to an adult population.

Experience Requirements:

A minimum of 2-3 years of relevant clinical experience is essential, particularly in the care and management of target patient populations specific to the area of employment. For positions in Critical Care, 2 years of Critical Care experience is mandatory unless otherwise approved by the Unit Manager.

Educational Qualifications:

A Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing is required. Consideration will be given to current Froedtert Health non-BSN prepared RNs with demonstrated leadership skills and at least 5 years of experience in an acute care environment, provided they have a formal commitment and plan to obtain a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing within 5 years of starting in the role.

Special Skills:

Candidates should have a proven track record of leadership roles, such as serving as a Shared Governance unit-based council chair, committee chair, preceptor, or equipment/process super user/champion.

Licensure Requirements:

A current state of Wisconsin Registered Nurse License or a Multi-state Nursing License from a participating state in the NLC (Nurse Licensure Compact) is required. Additionally, certification in Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (BLS) from the American Heart Association (AHA) or an equivalent is required within 90 days of hire. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification from the AHA is preferred.
