Job Opportunity: District Attorney's Investigator

Join the City and County of San Francisco's esteemed District Attorney's Office as a skilled District Attorney's Investigator. This dynamic role requires a seasoned professional to assist prosecutors in preparing and organizing cases for court, including locating missing witnesses and organizing evidence for presentation at trial.

As a District Attorney's Investigator, you will work closely with law enforcement agencies to ensure thorough investigations are conducted. Your expertise will be invaluable in the Trial Preparation Unit and the White-Collar Crimes Units, where you will conduct a variety of criminal investigations and assist in courtroom security.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct extensive interviews of victims, witnesses, and suspects, and write interview reports and summaries as needed.
  • Research law enforcement databases, such as CLETS, CalPhoto, and LexisNexis Accurint, and gather and review police reports, victim and witness statements, and lab and medical reports.
  • Prepare investigative reports, diagrams, charts, and scale drawings, and photograph crime scenes and evidence items.
  • Conduct surreptitious surveillance, only if approved by a supervisor, to identify and locate a suspect or reluctant witness on charged and uncharged cases.
  • Arrange for witnesses to appear in court to present testimony, and work with the Victim Advocates as needed.

Requirements:

  • Combination of education at the collegiate level in criminology, penology, police science, or a closely related field, and responsible criminal investigative experience totaling six years.
  • Possession of a valid Peace Officer Basic Certificate issued by the State of California Commission on Peace Officers Standards (POST).

Desired Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of existing criminal codes and laws, modern investigative techniques and methods, and presenting and preserving evidence.
  • Ability to handle responsible investigative assignments with tact, resourcefulness, and good judgment.

Salary Range: $126,282 - $161,174 annually. The City and County of San Francisco encourages women, minorities, and persons with disabilities to apply.
