Job Description and Duties

This is a critical role within the Board of Equalization, responsible for overseeing the examination of Organizational Clearance Certificate (OCC) and Supplemental Clearance Certificate (SCC) claims associated with welfare exemptions and veterans' organization exemptions.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Plan, organize, direct, and evaluate the work of staff in the examination of OCC and SCC claims.
  • Conduct compliance audits of organizational formative documents, tax-exemption status, and activities to ensure conformity with statutory requirements.
  • Review and verify the qualifications of organizations for welfare and veterans' organization exemptions.
  • Issue certificates to qualifying organizations and notify assessors of eligibility.
  • Ensure continued qualification for welfare and veterans' organization exemptions through periodic audits.
Working Conditions:
  • Standard office environment with occasional travel required.
  • Daily use of a personal computer, office equipment, and/or telephone.
  • Must be able to move/transport records or business equipment weighing up to 20 pounds.
Requirements:
  • Valid California Driver's License.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Suite, internet, and database systems.
  • Maintain a Board of Equalization (BOE) Appraiser Certificate, including continuing education.
  • Travel may be required throughout the state up to 10% of the time.
