Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) professional to join our team. As an EHS Specialist, you will play a critical role in identifying opportunities and driving EHS improvement for our Tempe, AZ area campus. You will work closely with our regional EHS Manager to support programs, processes, and procedures within different business sectors.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver New Hire Orientation Training: Develop and deliver comprehensive training programs to ensure new hires are equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills to perform their job duties safely and effectively.
  • Maintain Safety Records: Accurately maintain records for safety programs, including training logs, reports, and inspections.
  • Implement and Train New or Existing Training Programs: Develop and implement new or existing training programs to employees and supervision as needed.
  • Inspect Facilities: Conduct regular inspections to detect existing or potentially unsafe conditions and identify areas for improvement.
  • Lead Investigations: Lead investigations on incidents and near misses to identify root causes and develop corrective actions.
  • Engage Operations and Engineering Team Members: Collaborate with operations and engineering team members to ensure they follow work methods in their daily job functions.
  • Complete Observations and Mentoring: Conduct observations and mentoring of high-risk activities as needed.
  • Support Site Management: Proactively support site management in the implementation of EHS plans.
  • Maintain Compliance: Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and ISO standards and work with regulatory bodies.
  • Develop Interdepartmental Relationships: Foster strong relationships with operations, engineering, and other departments to ensure effective communication and collaboration.
  • Display Problem-Solving Skills: Demonstrate strong problem-solving, organizational, and analytical skills to identify and resolve EHS issues.
  • Support Emergency Preparedness: Support the execution of the Viasat Emergency Preparedness Plan.
  • Interpret and Implement EHS Practices: Interpret, train, and consistently implement Viasat EHS practices, policies, and procedures.
  • Maintain Operations and Facilities Relations: Maintain positive relationships with operations and facilities teams through regular interactions and communication.
  • Liaise with Suppliers and Contractors: Collaborate with suppliers and contractors as needed to ensure compliance with EHS standards.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor of Science degree in occupational safety and health, fire protection engineering, environmental science, industrial engineering, environmental management, or related field.
  • Experience: 3+ years of experience in a related field, with a strong background in general manufacturing safety processes, procedures, and requirements.
  • Knowledge and Skills: Working knowledge and experience with general and/or construction OSHA requirements, OSHA recordkeeping and reporting, and ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Communication and Teamwork: Strong communication and written skills, proficiency in MS Office programs, and ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Initiative and Motivation: Exemplary initiative and a learn-by-doing mentality, with a passion for EHS, sustainability, and social responsibility.
What We Offer

Viasat offers a comprehensive compensation package, including a competitive salary range of $70,000 to $122,900 per annum, additional cash or stock incentives, and a range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits focused on your holistic health and wellness.
